Frequently Asked Questions

I’m Emma Wilson, the creative visionary behind the international wedding film company Story Of Your Day, based in Switzerland and capturing weddings and events worldwide.

I’m British and a native English speaker, which often reassures my international and US-based clients – particularly those planning luxury destination weddings in Europe.

Before launching my business, I spent over two decades working as a BBC journalist and pioneering video journalist under the name Emma Massey. During that time, I developed a deep understanding of story structure, visual narrative, and the emotional power of sound — skills I’ve since brought into the wedding industry to redefine how stories are told on film.

Almost fifteen years ago, while still working for the BBC, I filmed a friend’s wedding — and something clicked. I realised I could bring journalistic depth and cinematic craft into an industry that was, at the time, still dominated by templated montages.

That led to the birth of Story Of Your Day – a company built not around trends or stylised highlight reels, but around truth and meaning.

Now, I’m proud to be a wedding videojournalist in a category of one.

Purveyors of Time Travel through Cinematic Storytelling — that’s the philosophy at the heart of everything we do.

I filmed my first wedding while still working for the BBC, almost 15 years ago. That one wedding made me realise that I could bring everything I’d learned in my journalism career – storytelling, emotional intelligence, narrative structure – to something far more personal and meaningful.

Since then, I’ve gone from filming weddings on the side of my news career to building one of Europe’s leading wedding film brands.

I describe myself as a wedding videojournalist in a category of one. My approach is rooted in truth – observing with intention, listening deeply, and telling the story that naturally unfolds.

We’re renowned for delivering highly curated wedding films and serve sophisticated, discerning clients who aren’t looking for formulaic highlight reels or stylised “perfume-ad-style” edits. Instead, they seek a timeless, story-driven, and cinematic experience – one that feels soulful, sincere, and entirely personal.

At Story Of Your Day, we didn’t adopt storytelling. We led with it.

We are Purveyors of Time Travel through Cinematic Storytelling –  crafting elegant, emotionally honest films that transport our clients back to the most meaningful moments of their lives. These are not just wedding videos; they’re cinematic time capsules.

Our style combines editorial discipline, emotional depth, and visual artistry – timeless now and for decades to come.
Because of this distinct, non-formulaic approach, we’ve become the exclusive videographer of choice for some of Europe’s leading luxury wedding planners and are proudly recommended by Switzerland Tourism.

Clients and planners trust us to create something truly special – not a copy, not a trend, but an authentic time capsule of their event.

As a Canon-recognised filmmaker and Canon Educator, I use Canon cameras and lenses exclusively. Our audio setup includes personal mics and recorders for vows and speeches, and Zoom H4n devices to capture clean sound directly from the DJ or venue’s system — because for us, audio is half the story.

We also fly drones where permitted, to add thoughtful cinematic context – never just for spectacle.

Importantly, we don’t use gimbals or create high-production-style visual effects on the day. Our films are not made through stylised camera tricks, but through intentional framing, considered audio, and expert editing.

Our presence is low-key and non-intrusive – ideal for clients who value discretion and authenticity over spectacle. If you’re looking for a full on-set production crew, we’re likely not the right fit. But if you want a team who blends into the day and elevates your story with soul and sophistication, that’s exactly what we do.

It’s a privilege to be invited into such an intimate and meaningful day in someone’s life. What I enjoy most is being fully present – not just observing, but truly feeling the emotion of the day and quietly capturing it with honesty and intention.

There’s something incredibly fulfilling about telling a story that’s completely unique – knowing that no two films will ever be the same. I love crafting films that don’t just show what happened, but evoke how it felt.

And when a couple tells me they cried watching their film, or that it transported them right back to a moment – that’s everything. It means we’ve done our job.

It all starts with connection. We only take on a limited number of commissions each year so we can give each couple our full attention. That begins with a personal call – to understand not just the logistics of their day, but who they are, what they value, and what matters most to them.

We guide them through our approach, answer questions, and build trust well before the wedding. By the time the day arrives, we’re not strangers with cameras – we’re a calm, trusted presence.

We don’t use shot lists or templates. Our films are crafted around the people, the energy, and the emotion of each day. And in post-production, we draw from that story to create a film that’s elegant, honest, and uniquely theirs.

To maintain the quality and attention each client deserves, I limit myself to around 12 to 15 weddings per year, with a handful of intimate elopements and local proposal shoots in between.

This approach allows me to stay creatively present, build strong relationships with my clients, and deliver a highly personal and elevated experience – both in the way we work and in the films we craft.

We offer full-day coverage – because you can’t tell a meaningful story by watching the clock.

Rather than limiting coverage to a set number of hours, we’re there when the story begins and stay until we have everything we need to craft a complete and powerful narrative.

Every wedding is different, and our approach reflects that. We capture the day as it unfolds naturally, from the quiet anticipation of the morning to the energy of the evening, so that nothing important is missed.

Our wedding film commissions begin at 10,000 CHF for full-day coverage.

We don’t charge by the hour – we offer an experience rooted in story, not time. Every quote is bespoke, based on the nature of the event, location, and coverage requirements, and always includes both myself and an assistant.

Our commissions are based on the deliverables not the hours filming on the day and we offer three different tiers as well as bespoke pricing.

We work with a limited number of couples each year so we can provide an exceptional level of service and produce a film that truly reflects the depth and beauty of the day.

Yes – don’t just fall in love with the film. Fall in love with the filmmaker.

It’s not just about style; it’s about connection. You should feel aligned with your videographer’s approach, values, and energy. This relationship makes all the difference – not only in how relaxed you feel on the day, but in how your story is told.

Also, look for variety in their portfolio, not just a single style repeated across every film. Your wedding deserves to feel unique – not like it’s been made to fit a template.

And finally, ask who’s actually crafting your film. You want someone who takes personal ownership from start to finish – not a company that outsources editing or sends associate shooters.

Absolutely – all my weddings are destination weddings.

Even though I’m based in Switzerland, my couples travel from all over the world, and many of the events I film take place in iconic European destinations like the Swiss Alps, Lake Como, the South of France, and the UK.

But for me, it’s never just about the destination – it’s about the couple and their story. I film stories about people, places, and love, and what truly makes a location special is the connection shared between two people and the trust they place in me to capture that authentically.

That’s what shapes the film. That’s what stays with me long after the wedding is over.

I film stories about people, places, and love.

Every wedding I take on is special to me – not because of the location or the scale of the event, but because of the couple, their connection, and the story they’ve entrusted me to tell.

It’s never just about creating a beautiful film. It’s about capturing something honest, meaningful, and deeply personal – a cinematic time capsule that transports you back to how it all felt.

At Story Of Your Day, I’m proud to be LGBTQ+ inclusive. I’ve been honoured to film same-sex weddings, elopements, and celebrations of love – and I want every couple I work with to feel seen, celebrated, and safe.

And for my international couples – especially those from the US – it’s always worth mentioning: I’m British and fluent in English, which brings ease and reassurance to the entire planning and filming process.

That’s why we’re more than just wedding filmmakers.
