Dreaming of a destination wedding in Switzerland? You’re not alone. At Story Of Your Day, we’ve seen such a huge interest in couples travelling overseas to enjoy a Swiss wedding.
Of course, we know why… Switzerland is quite simply, beautiful. Filled with deep forests, amazing lakes and glaciers, impressive castles, magnificent cathedrals, traditional churches. And indeed, those beautiful snow-capped mountains.
Besides that, it’s also incredibly easy to travel around Switzerland, with one of the best railway systems in the world.
Here’s just a few of the stories of couples who have a made a special journey to tie the knot in Switzerland with Story Of Your Day on hand to film the wonderful occasion.
From Saudi Arabia to Switzerland
Shahad and Abdullah flew over from Saudi Arabia for a wonderful wedding at the amazing Fairmont Le Montreux Palace Hotel. And, wow, what a superb Swiss wedding venue – located on the shores of Lake Geneva and delivering magnificent views of the lake and the Alps.
From Australia to Switzerland
Making a 9,000 mile trip from Australia were Jess and Cory. They had such a wonderful intimate and beautiful elopement wedding ceremony at the gorgeous Lake Blausee. Translating as ‘Blue Lake’, Blausee is a stunning lake in the Kander valley above Kandergrund.
From the USA to Switzerland
Brittany and Ryan, who live in Texas, had a very special reason for making the long journey over to Switzerland. Their venue – the Reformed Church of Davos Frauenkirch (Reformierte Kirche Davos Frauenkirch) in the Ski resort town of Davos – is not only a splendid venue.
But, more, importantly, it is also the church where Brittany’s grandparents, Tootsie and Pops, married in July 1946, shortly after World War II.
From Malaysia to Switzerland
“I couldn’t find anywhere in Malaysia that would be spectacular enough and I wanted to propose in the snow and the mountains….” Chen Yi explained as he asked Story Of Your Day to him plan a very romantic proposal for his girlfriend, while the couple were on their travels around Europe. Because they were stopping over in Switzerland, we knew that the foot of The Eiger – a 3,967-metre world-famous mountain of the Bernese Alps – would be the ideal location for Chen Yi to propose. You can read more about the special Swiss alps proposal here.
From Singapore to Switzerland
Elaine and Alexander met in Singapore and have spent much of their relationship living across different time zones. So, it was a wonderful occasion, sitting beneath the North Face of The Eiger, to capture the moment they shared special vows with one another. Their wedding ceremony took place at the Villa Villette in Cham, overlooking Lake Zug.
Closer to home..
Because I have the advantage of French and German speaking assistants, I’ve also seen a rise in wedding bookings from native Swiss people. Of course, they already know how beautiful Switzerland is! This year, we filmed French-speaking Swiss couple Mathilde and Hélio’s wedding in Payerne, central-western Switzerland.
