Doing something new and different always sparks creativity and inspiration. Which is why we recently jotted down our own perfect bucket list – 5 dream wedding locations we’d like to shoot at.
It’s probably akin to places that most people would like to visit – those places that just feel so magical, mind-blowing or otherworldly.
But as a wedding videographer, there’s something quite spine-tingling about capturing someone’s unique love story at truly special places.
Since launching my company Story Of Your Day just a few years ago, we’ve grown from covering local but very splendid weddings in gorgeous close-to-home Yorkshire venues to travelling further afield to capture wonderful moments in places, such as Bahrain and France, and soon Australia and New York.
So without further ado, let me introduce to you Story Of Your Day’s Wedding Videography Bucket List…
1 Lake Como
Surrounded by snow-capped mountains; stunning antique villas with splendid and beautiful gardens; and divine, colourful villages… who wouldn’t want to marry at the romantic, elegant and sunny shores of Lake Como? Last year I had the absolute pleasure in filming Rachael and James’s wedding in Sorrento and it was simply wonderful. The food, the culture, the atmosphere was perfect and I’d love to return to Italy again.
Lake Como Wedding Venue we love… Villa del Balbianello is one of the finest villas surrounding the lake – elegant, yet cosy, with terraced romantic gardens positioned next to a wooded promontory.
While we’re in Italy, we wouldn’t want to leave without a visit to Venice, the city that never fails to enchant. Stylish, wonderful and exuberant, the timeless charm of Venice places this Italian city high on our bucket list. Gondolas and pistachio ice creams please.
Venice Wedding Venue we love… Belmond Hotel Cipriani is a legendary hotel on the island of Giudecca with unrivalled views of the lagoon and Doge’s Palace.
3 Greek Islands
From Paxos to Santorini, the Greek islands have some truly stunning wedding venues with the most amazing backdrops and simply awesome sunset views. If your dream wedding is to have the sand between your toes, what could be more magical than a beautiful Greek beach wedding, followed by local cuisine and traditional dancing.
Greek Island Wedding Venue we love… a Oia church with a blue-domed roof in Santorini would be simply wonderful, with a backdrop of the most spectacular sunset you’ll ever see.
Swept by the Pacific and Indian oceans, the islands of Indonesia are known for their stunning white beaches and amazing, colourful flora and fauna. We can just imagine a Hindu wedding at sunset on a picture-perfect beach in Bali with a view over coral reefs and turquoise lagoons.
Indonesian Wedding Venue we love… Alila Villas Uluwatu offers laid-back luxury with villas, perched on limestone cliffs 100 metres above the Indian Ocean, built from local rattan and recycled wood and clad in flat lava rocks.
This would be a wedding destination like no other – the land of fire and ice offers unique wilderness and stunning beauty with glaciers and volcanic springs located next to each other. Heading by helicopter to film a ceremony on top of a glacier or strolling along black sand beaches near bubbling mud pools.
Iceland Wedding Venue we love… Hotel Budir, a two-hour drive from Reykjavik, provides a truly spectacular backdrop for a wedding ceremony, with glaciers, fjords, volcanoes and soaring mountains, alongside a small black church in the backyard.
And finally, one little extra thing we’ve got on our ‘really, want to do that’ list!
The beauty of this being you can pretty much elope to anywhere in the world. Avoid the hassle and worries of a big-wedding affair and run away to an exotic, quirky or romantic destination for a stress-free private wedding. We haven’t had the pleasure of filming an elopement yet, but if you’re thinking of having one and would like to capture it on film, to share it with family and friends then just get in touch!
